the first doctor's appointment

Zuzu’s first doctor’s appointment was at four days old. As soon as we went into an exam room, POOF -- the lights went out. Pitch black. (Believe it or not, the entire hospital lost power). We would end up having most of Zuzu’s exam on the floor of the hallway (lit by emergency generator-powered lights) while some nurses brought a lightheaded Jenn, who was on the verge of passing out (still very much healing from childbirth), a cold compress and apple juice. Then, while being weighed, a naked Zuzu pooped three times on the scale. Of course as first time parents, instead of apologizing on her behalf, we remarked at how incredibly cute it was. When it was all over, we wondered if the peds clinic would ever want to see us again. A memorable experience indeed!
